Sushi etiquette (in three steps)
1.
pick up nigiri with your hand
Nigiri (a type of sushi that is a fish slice on rice) is meant to be eaten with your hands.
2.
lightly dip nigiri into soy sauce
Lightly dip the fish side into the soy sauce.
3.
eat sushi
Place the fish side onto your tongue.
It is proper to eat the entire piece. Although it is alright to eat the piece in more than one bite.
Poor sushi etiquette
do not dip rice into soy sauce
DO NOT dip the rice into soy sauce.
do not put ginger on top of nigiri
DO NOT put pickled ginger on top of sushi. Ginger is to be eaten in-between pieces, so it may clear your palette.
DO NOT over pour the soy sauce
DO NOT over-pour the soy sauce. This way you will not over-soak the nigiri. Remember, you can always add more soy sauce later.
